If you search for the median home price in Louisville, Kentucky, you will get a dozen different answers. Most of them come from different places and different months. So here is one clear answer, with the source written right on it.
In September 2026, the median sold price for a single-family home in Jefferson County was $285,000. The average sold price was $353,813. Both numbers come from the Louisville MLS (Multiple Listing Service), which is the database real estate agents use to list and report home sales.
Median versus average, in plain English
The median is the middle house. Line up every home that sold in September from cheapest to most expensive, and the median is the price of the one in the exact middle. Half sold for less, half sold for more.
The average is every sale price added up and divided by the number of homes. A handful of very expensive sales pull the average up. That is why the average ($353,813) is about $69,000 higher than the median ($285,000). If you want to know what a typical house costs, the median is the better number.

What the numbers say
Compared with September 2025, when the median was $265,000, this September is up 7.5%. I would not read too much into that one comparison. September 2025 was a soft month, since the median in August 2025 was $289,450. Over the past 12 months, the monthly median has bounced between $262,000 (January) and $296,000 (July).
The pattern is the usual one. Prices run lower in the winter, climb through spring, peak in the summer, and ease off in the fall. If you are planning to sell, the summer peak in this data is a good reason to read our guide to the best time to sell a house in Louisville.
